Nobody gets through life without challenges.
When times are tough, talking is a way to figure things out.
The Relational Practice
Who we are
Welcome to The Relational Practice, a home for therapy services and support. We offer one-to-one talking therapy and have built a space where you can speak honestly about what's going on, with a therapist who is genuinely interested in you and committed to working through it together.
We work with adults dealing with a wide range of things: anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, relationship difficulties, major life changes, and things that are harder to name. If you're not sure whether what you're going through is 'enough' to bring to therapy, it probably is.
Why the name
There are a lot of methods in therapy, and our therapists are trained across several of them. But The Relational Practice speaks to our ethos borne of our belief that the relationship between therapist and client and how they meet each other, how much trust develops over time, is what actually makes therapy work. More than any particular technique.
That shapes how we practise, and it shapes who we bring into the practice.
Our therapists
Everyone at The Relational Practice is fully qualified and professionally accredited through either the BACP or the UKCP. But we also care about the less measurable things: warmth, honesty, and genuine curiosity about the people they work with.
Where we are
We have therapy rooms in Ealing (West London), Guildford (Surrey), and Petersfield (Hampshire). We also work online, and for many people a mix of in-person and online suits them well.
How we work together, our process
We offer in person and online work, and both have the same structure.
-
You and your therapist speak briefly for a few minutes, with no obligations. You can ask whatever you need to, and your therapist will ask about what's brought you here. The point is to see whether it feels like a useful fit, for both of you, and if so, what sort of scheduling might work.
-
Once you have found a time that works, the early sessions are about getting clarity and figuring out how you get along. The time will be used to explore what you're carrying, what you're hoping for, and what kind of help you actually want – so there's no pressure to have this worked out before you meet.
-
Sessions are 50 minutes, weekly, ideally at the same time and day, but each therapist will have their own level of flexibility. From time to time you and your therapist will review how things are going, and what can be done differently if need be.
-
When you're ready to stop, we plan for it. Endings matter in therapy so that they form part of the work, not just a postscript to it.
